Bezalel Innovation Comity and the Faculty of Sciences at the Hebrew University
Tomatoes contain carotenoids molecules which protect them from UV radiation and give them their characteristic red color. It is possible to control the pigment composition and its coloration: producing green, yellow, orange and red tomato’s pigments. The project aims to embed carotenoids genes from tomatoes into cotton plants and plastic products.
In a transgenic process, It is possible to create already painted cotton fabric in a wide range of organic colors. A great byproduct of this process is that the cotton fabric is UV radiation protected.
The project was part of a corporation with Orly Derey of the Faculty of Sciences at the Hebrew University.
